Speech therapy is a work of heart.

Why TeleTherapy?

Proof It Works!

Studies over the years prove that TeleTherapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. (Early Intervention, 2022; Speech-Language Therapy, 2015; Voice Therapy, 2014; Adults, 2019.) TeleTherapy has been utilized and supported by the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) since 2005, including reimbursement equal to in-person therapy services. TeleTherapy is real therapy, and it works.

I provided in-person therapy for 18 months prior to opening my own practice. In 2013, I opened my brick-and-mortar providing only in-person therapy for another seven (7) years, until the pandemic hit. Then I witnessed an interesting phenomenon when we pivoted to TeleTherapy:

Higher Attendance

We have witnessed higher attendance rates with TeleTherapy. You don’t need to cancel and reschedule appointments when the patient and/or family members have a cold, the flu or COVIDsymptoms, when you have car trouble, when hubby accidentally takes your keys, when you must get across town to pick up sister from soccer because carpool canceled, etc. Patients can do therapy in the comfort of their own home, even in their pajamas!

Increased Involvement From Everyone

We have witnessed increased parent/caregiver involvement. With in-person therapy, we asked the parents/caregivers to join the session only in the last five (5) minutes of therapy. This was because kiddos attempt to use their adult as an avoidance technique during in-person therapy, and frankly, the adults fall for the manipulation. It was difficult for us to enforce the communication rules of our therapy room when the parent/caregiver broke the rules themselves. Sorry for calling you out, parents!

When we pivoted to TeleTherapy, we found that kids are more compliant because they are in their own home. We did not expect this! They know the rules of their own house and parents are more apt to enforce the rules of their house during TeleTherapy, such as compliance, listening, reward systems, etc.; therefore, parents/caregivers can join the entire session and be an aid rather than a distraction.

In addition, individuals of all ages tend to feel more comfortable in their own home. When we are more relaxed, we learn better. I hear from so many parents that they are very reluctant to try TeleTherapy and are convinced their kiddos will not be able to do it. My answer? Try it first. Approximately 95% of those same parents are shocked to witness how well their kiddos acclimated to and enjoy TeleTherapy. Schedule a Free Consultation to test it out. You could be surprised!

Save Time And Money!

Another benefit to TeleTherapy is saving your time and your money! Instead of sitting in the car to and from your appointments, spending money on expensive gas, you could be relaxing, meditating, napping, reading that book for “book” club (we know it’s really wine club, no judgment), or even just hiding in your closet from your kids for an extra 30 minutes of Me-Time. Seriously, no judgment! I hear it all the time.
